Buy One Get One FREE BookFair!!

Dear Parents,

Parent Teacher Conferences are upon us and that means Book Fair. This flier is just a reminder that book fair will be open during Parent Teacher Conferences on March 11th and 12th. It will also be open during the Grand Event on March 12th. If your student has an adult with them, they may also shop while grandparents and other special guests are here during their lunch on Thursday of that week.

This Book Fair is a buy one get one event. This means for every book you buy, you will get a free book of equal or lesser value. The buy one get one offer will only apply to books and will not apply to posters, pens, pencils, erasers or other novelty items.

In addition to our Book Fair at the school, there is now an online book fair option. If you go to our book fair homepageBookFair, (CLICK ON THE IMAGE IN THIS POST) you can shop the fair online. This fair runs longer than the school fair but is NOT a buy one get one event. The dates for the online Book Fair are March 5th to March 13th.

When you come to the Book Fair at the school, there will be a teacher wish list. This will give parents the opportunity to purchase books for the classrooms. This is a great way to build up the classroom libraries.

One more thing, just as a reminder, the school receives a portion of every purchase in Scholastic credit. This credit is used to buy books for the library, books for the classrooms, as well as books that are gifted to students. Every purchase you make is benefiting our students and encouraging a love of reading.

Last Week to Finish K-8 Intro to Computer Science Program – and Earn Rewards

We have 20 students that have completed the K-8 Intro to Computer Science program, and we applaud their dedication and hard work.  We now need at least 10 more students to finish to have a chance at a second $1000 reward for our school- the deadline for this is JUNE 15th.

If your student is currently working on the program, we’d like to see them finish this week if possible.  If they aren’t already, they need to be using the teacher code URTNBK. (Mrs. Matthews) THIS IS CRITICAL FOR THE REWARD

If they have a different teacher listed on their -my progress- page, simply click Remove teacher, and then ADD teacher, and enter this code.

The school computer lab will be open on Wednesday, June11th, from 9:30 to 11:30 to help those who would like to FINISH the program.  You need to have already COMPLETED the first 12 STAGES in order to join us for this completion party.

We invite ALL THOSE WHO HAVE COMPLETED the program to come help those that haven’t.

We will have pizza after for everyone that participates. We will be done by 12:00 pm.

If you have questions, contact Mrs. Wight.

There’s still time to earn $1000 for our school!

Since January we have had over 100 students sign up to participate in the K-8 Intro to Computer Science course at code.org.

Students who completed the course, were able to win prizes for themselves, and work toward winning $1000 for our school. In order to receive the $1000 for classroom supplies, we need to have at least 15 students complete the program.

We have 8 students that have completed the program, and we applaud their dedication and hard work.  We need at least 7 more students to finish – and we are hoping to have them finish before school ends, if possible.

If your student is close to finishing, we’d like to see him/her try to finish this week if possible.  If they aren’t already, they need to be using the teacher code GUSKRT. (Mrs. Williams) If they have a different teacher listed on their -my account- page, simply click Remove teacher, and then ADD teacher, and enter this code.  (We started out with high hopes that we could have 45 students finish – but now are just hoping for ONE group of fifteen.)

If your student has forgotten their username or password, or needs any other assistance, you can contact Mrs. Wight, our computer lab aid, for help.  Also if your student would like to get help before school in the computer lab this week, contact Mrs. Wight to make arrangements.

FOOD DRIVE for the Utah Food Bank

The Terra Linda Student Council is conducting a FOOD DRIVE for the Utah Food Bank.

Valentines Day is coming! So, Terra Linda will be having a food drive from February 10th-21st to show that we care about the Utah Food Bank.  We need students to bring as much canned food as possible to help the Utah Food Bank.  Here are some examples of canned food students can bring: Peanut butter, Tuna, Fruit, Vegetables, Stews, Chili, Beans, and Corn.
Please help us reach our goal of 1,000 cans.

Thanks for helping the Utah Food Bank!

Go Beyond the Hour of Code

It’s not too late for your student to go BEYOND the Hour of Code…

Encourage them to join us in completing the K-8 Intro to Computer Science course at code.org

More information can be found on the Terra Linda website, CLICK HERE.

Students that complete the course quickly may win prizes from code.org – and if enough students finish quickly we could earn money for classroom supplies at our school!

We can potentially earn 1000’s of  dollars for our school – but we need YOUR HELP.  For each group of 15 or more students(7 must be girls) that finish the K-8 Intro to Computer Science course, the teacher will receive a $1000 credit to donors.choose.org to use for grade level supplies.  This is only available to the FIRST 1000 teachers whose students complete the course.  If your student(s) have some extra time this week, sign them up and get them started. It’s FUN, EDUCATIONAL, and could really PAY OFF for our school!

We have nearly 90 students signed up! However just 5 students have finished, and only about 25 have worked on it at all in the last week. There is still time to earn money for our school, but we need 30 students to finish quickly! If your student is currently signed up with Ms. Newbold’s class – we’d like to move them to one of the other groups to increase our chances of having 15 finish in each group. You can click the remove a teacher link on the progress page; and then add a teacher (use a teacher code from the TL website). Contact Mrs. Wight if you need help doing this.  Also the computer lab continues to be open before school at 8:00 am on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays through February.

Thanks
